Chawan

This tea bowl was made on my pottery wheel in Taiwan. I work from a small studio that overlooks the Yamingshan mountains. Those mountains are a constant source of inspiration for me.

The unique aspect of this tea bowl is the impressed criss-cross pattern. I did this while the clay was still wet. The pattern is a nice feature and serves as the 'front' of the tea bowl. I believe that a good tea bowl should show the hand of the maker. I also believe that a handmade pottery piece will add pleasure to the user. The connection between maker and user is strong.
