Chawan

A shino glazed chawan. This bowl has been fired in a reduction atmosphere, reaching to the temperature of 1280 degrees.

The chawan is quite large, measuring 15 cm in diameter.

I used local Taiwanese clay.

I love making tea bowls as each is individual and has its own spirit. Maybe this one can become your drinking companion?

Before glazing I added some simple iron oxide brush strokes, creating some interest. I am always trying to show the hand of the maker in my pots. I believe a handmade pot adds something that a mass-produced item does not.
