Chawan

This tea bowl was made in my small pottery workshop in Taiwan. My workshop overlooks the Yamingshan Mountains which are a constant source of inspiration.
Tea bowls have always appealed to me. I love that you have to hold the bowl in two hands. I love the humble form. I think tea bowls can really connect with people and become something that enriches their tea-drinking experience.
This particular bowl was made from Japanese porcelain clay. I then added some iron oxide brush strokes which add interest and also show a little more hand from the maker.

The glaze is white but you can detect the faintest hint of blue.
