Chawan

This tea bowl was made in my small pottery workshop, here in Taiwan.
I used local Taiwanese clay and then I placed this bowl in a wood-fired kiln. The kiln was fired for 4 days and then allowed to cool for a week.
I believe a tea bowl with asymmetrical features possesses a certain beauty. A beauty in imperfection. I created a wavy and attempted to throw a 'free' bowl that has character.
I love making tea bowls because each bowl comes out different. Each has its personality and charm.

I hand-carved the foot ring to again show the hand of the maker.
