Chawan

A hand-thrown chawan made with Taiwanese clay and wood fired in Taiwan. I applied a shino glaze that interacted beautifully with the fly ash in the kiln, creating a warm, organic surface and subtle variations in tone. During the firing, wood ash fused the foot to the wadding, and the piece had to be carefully ground free. The marks left behind are part of the story of the firing: unpredictable, honest, and unique to this kiln environment.

This chawan feels balanced in the hands and invites quiet use and attention.
