Chawan

This wheel-thrown tea bowl was made from Japanese porcelain clay and wood fired over four days, allowing the natural movement of flame and ash to influence the final surface. A soft white crackle glaze covers the bowl, creating a network of fine lines that slowly deepen with use, adding character over time. In several areas, delicate crystal formations emerged during the firing, giving the surface subtle variation and quiet moments of sparkle.

The throwing lines have been intentionally left visible, revealing the hand of the maker and the rhythm of the wheel. These marks create a tactile connection between the potter and the person holding the bowl, while also echoing the spirit of wabi-sabi—honoring process, imperfection, and the passage of time.
