Sake Tokkuri

This sake bottle/tokkuri was wheel thrown in my small pottery workshop in Taiwan.

I made this form from Japanese red clay and then applied a dark temonku type glass.

I first wood fired this piece but was not pleased with the result. I then gave it a second chance by reduction firing it to 1265 degrees. The result was now ready to put on my etsy shop.

While throwing the piece I made three indentations that serve a few different purposes. It makes it more comfortable to hold, shows the softness that they clay once had, and also highlights the uniqueness of the piece.

I love making pottery that can be enjoyed by people.
