This small tokkuri/vase was wheel thrown and then hand altered in my small pottery workshop here in Taiwan.
The tokkuri holds 150 ml of liquid so is ideal for someone who enjoys an intimate encounter.
A Taiwanese groggy clay body was used. This tokkuri was fired in a reduction atmosphere. I wanted to make a sake vessel that appeared old and wise. For this reason I didn't add any glaze. I did however, dust wood ash over sections of the pot. This wood ash melted in the firing and became the unique glaze.
After I threw the piece I then hand altered parts of vessel to again create a mood of hardship but final triumph. I impressed my hands over the wet clay, altered the pouring lip to give three pouring points, and also sliced a wooden tool down one side. I believe the hand of the maker needs to be present to add character and personality.
This tokkuri could also double as a small vase on a dinning table.
Be the owner of an original handmade piece of pottery from the beautiful island of Taiwan.
